< Canadian Blood Services anticipating summer shortage >
A number of unfilled appointments has Canadian Blood Services anticipating a shortage by the end of the summer. They’re hoping Canadians will roll up their sleeves and make up the difference.
About 51,000 donations are needed between now and Labour Day to keep blood supplies at an adequate level.
“Every summer is a challenge, but this year the trend is especially concerning,” said Susan Matsumoto, executive director for donor and clinic services. “With so many open appointments we need Canadians to book and donate now.”
There were over 12,000 unfilled appointments this summer, according to the CBS.
A number of temporary blood clinics will open around the country during the rest of the summer, while existing clinics will hold extended hours.
